How to Keep Teens Safe on Social Media

Once upon a time, the question on the minds of parents with tweens was: "When should I get my kid a phone?" However, a more significant dilemma now arises: "When are they ready for social media?" As early as middle school, and sometimes even earlier, children start asking for the ability to connect with their friends on platforms like Snapchat, Instagram, and TikTok. They may feel excluded if their peers are granted access to social media while they are not. Nonetheless, there is potential for significant harm if children lack the maturity to make sound decisions about what to share, whom to share it with, and how to handle negative feedback.
