Youth Smart: Mental Health Resource Guide for ParentsCaregivers

Canadian Mental Health Association

Build your mental health literacy and confidence in supporting a young person’s mental health. Developed by the Canadian Mental Health Association – Calgary Region, this practical guide helps parents and caregivers recognize signs of concern, start supportive conversations, and understand when to seek professional help.

The Guide touches on a number of important topics, such as:

  • Managing stress
  • Mental health and mental illness
  • Neurodiversity
  • Understanding mental health stigma and its impact
  • Having conversations about mental health
  • Suicide prevention
  • Self-care and how to support someone
  • How to talk to your doctor about mental health
  • Building mental well-being and resilience.

It includes tips, checklists, and activities covering stress management, healthy coping, suicide prevention, building resilience, and self-care for both youth and caregivers. While some service listings are specific to Calgary, the guide offers information and tools that families in Regina can use.
