Teaching Sexual Health

Talking about sexual health is part of supporting your child’s growth and well-being—but knowing where to start can be challenging. Alberta Health Services' Teaching Sexual Health offers information and resources to help parents and caregivers prepare for, begin, and maintain ongoing conversations with children and youth about sexual health. Explore online resources by age or topic to find information relevant to your family.

Some examples of the information available include:

  • Age-specific information about children’s development and topics to discuss as they grow.
  • Information about puberty, body changes, menstruation, and sexual development.
  • Guidance on talking about relationships, including recognizing healthy, unhealthy, and abusive relationships.
  • Information on sexting and pornography and strategies to keep your child or teen safe.
  • Resources on consent, bullying, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, and gender-inclusive language.
  • Information about reproduction, pregnancy, birth control, and sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
